Triqui Barbie Dresses

These ceremonial dresses are only worn during the few traditional Triqui holidays. The lighter colored dress is for a young girl. Adult women wear dresses that are almost completely red.


The complete costume includes an undergarment which is predominately black.The women tell me that it takes several days to make the dress and another day to make the undergarment.

I am anticipating Barbie sized serapes, shoulder bags, belts and so forth in the near future. I have high hopes for the success of this project. It could provide a reasonably good income for the Triqui women and at the same time preserve the Triqui culture through one of the enduring products of all times.
